Evangelion Pilgrimage

Besides the cellphone, as another tie-in with the new Evangelion 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance movie, the Hakone Tourism Committee, under supervision of Studio Khara and Gainax is releasing a “Evangelion Hakone Complementation Map” (ヱヴァンゲリヲン箱根補完マップ). From July 11 onwards, 10,000 pamphlets will be distributed to visitors through Hakone’s major facilities.

Hakone is a town in the Kanagawa prefecture of Japan. In Evangelion, the town was renamed as Tokyo-3, the setting for the series. The map, will guide you to various places in Hakone that appeared in the anime.

From 4th to the 6th of June, 1,000 of the pamphlets were distributed per-day before the official launch. I wonder if anyone has scan and leaked them online. I’d love to go on this pilgrimage..

The reverse side of the map has scenes from the anime for comparison and also sightseeing route suggestions.

Huge number of fans lining up for the early map distribution. They included people from Fukuoka, Hokkaido and even Okinawa. There were even fans who arrived the night before. Surprisingly, there were quite a number of female fans there too.

  1. Oooh I never knew Tokyo-3 was Hakone… I remember Danny Choo went there on a trip. It seemed like a quiet place, but after this map distribution, maybe not so much ^^;

    Yeah, I guess it’s a fairly unknown fact. The actual distribution actually starts tomorrow and I’m wondering how packed it’ll be. Wish I could go~
